The 2012 NFL season will be here before we know it. On Tuesday, the NFL officially announced the date and participants in this year's kickoff game.
According to NFL Vice President of Football Communications Michael Signora, the New York Giants will host the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday, September 5. The game will officially begin the 2012 football season and the Cowboys will look to snap a relatively new, but formidable winning streak.
Beginning in 2004, the previous season's Super Bowl winner has hosted the first regular-season football game of the year. The Giants will have history on their side: since 2004, the defending Super Bowl champions are 8-0 in the kickoff game.
The game will be televised nationally on NBC and will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET, with NFL Kickoff 2012 starting an hour before.
