One Man Gang: Augmenting The Cowboys Roster Through Free Agency

I penned a piece for Blogging The Boys, that took an overhead view of trying to improve the Dallas Cowboys for the 2012 season. All holes can't be plugged with big name free agents. However, the smart management in recent years of Stephen Jones and his salary cap team shows gives them a little flexibility in making decisions on theirs and other team's free agents.

This year returns to normal, augment through free agency and supplement through the draft.

For my take, I'd only resign four of the Cowboys pending free agents, after also releasing cornerback Terence Newman.

S Abe Elam, FB Tony Fiammetta, G Montrae Holland and WR Laurent Robinson are all invited to return at reasonable rates.

As for the true free agent market? The biggest splash I'd make is snatching C Chris Myers away from Houston and bringing in Kyle Orton to take on the Jon Kitna role. I'd also resuscitate the career of Channing Crowder to add to the inside linebacker mix, and steal P Steve Weatherford from the world champion New York Giants.

You can go to the original article, here, to read all of my rationales, how these players would fit under the cap and my seven draft picks that would round out the 53 man roster.
