Green Day's lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong is doing his best to take after Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant. Armstrong managed to get himself kicked off of an airplane on Thursday for wearing his pants too low. When Armstrong was apparently told to pick up his pants, he had a minor meltdown, prompting his ejection from the plane.
The rocker was onboard a Southwest Airlines jet when a flight attendant asked him to hike up his trousers before take-off, prompting him to ask if there were "better things to do than worry about that?", according to an ABC7 report.
He was then booted off for failing to comply, and took to his Twitter.com page to vent his frustration, writing, "Just got kicked off a Southwest flight because my pants sagged too low! What the f**k? No joke!"
Sound familiar?
Dez Bryant started this trend months ago at NorthPark Center, when he was issued a criminal trespass warning warning.
According to the official police report, Bryant and three friends were stopped by the uniformed, off-duty officers working security shortly before 8 p.m. at the popular shopping center after they were observed "wearing their pants halfway down their hips exposing their underwear."
The police asked the men to pull their pants up."Mr. Bryant's response to the request was profanity laced and [NorthPark] center representatives felt the outburst merited a request for Mr. Bryant to leave the premises," according to a Dallas police statement issued Tuesday evening.
"What the [expletive] are you stopping me, like I stole something," Bryant was quoted as saying by a News 8 source. "I'm not leaving until my attorney and my representative get here."Police said Bryant continued cursing as the off-duty officers escorted him to his vehicle.
Billie Joe's story and reaction are nearly identical to that of Bryant's - except he just kicked it up a notch. Pants too low? Check. Being asked to pull them up? Check. Going berserk at the request? Check. Being escorted off the premises? Check.
The pants involved are the two real victims in these stories. Pants just simply aren't meant to be worn from the cheeks down. Wearing pants too low are just one way pants are being abused. Pretty soon, Randy Marsh and Ms. Steamy Nicks will be setting the latest pant trend. But like Billie Joe took after Dez Bryant, Marsh and Nicks would simply be taking after George Brett.
Save the pants, people.
