Cowboys Release Statement On Tony Romo's Injury

The Cowboys have confirmed earlier reports that Tony Romo has a small puncture in his lungs related to his rib fracture.

Additional testing on the fractured rib of Tony Romo today revealed that he also has evidence of a pneumothorax—a condition that is not unusual for an injury such as the one Romo sustained in the game in San Francisco.

Varying degrees of a pneumothorax can heal in differing time frames. The Cowboys medical team will continue to monitor the situation and conduct additional tests as the week progresses.

Romo was injured early in the Cowboys’ 27-24 OT win over the 49ers Sunday and left the game for most of the third quarter. He returned late to lead the team back from a ten-point deficit and won it on Dallas’ first drive of the extra period.

Jason Garrett said in his Monday press conference that the Cowboys are hopeful that Romo will be able to start Monday night’s home opener versus the Redskins.
