Cowboys Likely To Keep David Buehler

Dallas' kicking carousel will at least have a familiar face around to start the season. Jerry Jones stated that David Buehler will likely make the final roster, despite his inconsistent play.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said he knows what he wants to do at kicker, and said the "possiblity is there" that Dallas will keep two on their roster as they did in 2009. But he also stressed that kicking off is important, even though kickoffs have been moved from the 30 to the 35-yard line this season.

"I know this: I want that ball to go into the end zone [on kickoffs]," Jones said. "Seriously, I want it to go there every time on kickoffs. So we want that to happen."

Buehler missed eight field goals last season, converting just 75% of his attempts. Keeping two kickers on the roster would likely mean that Buehler's only role on the team would to be to kick it into the end zone - as big Jerry wants him to, and having another kicker handle field goal duties.

It seems pretty unnecessary to keep two kickers on the roster merely for the sake of forcing a touchback on each kickoff. It's a tough situation since Dallas can't afford to leave points on the field this season, but it's also a bit loony to carry two kickers. We'll see what Jason Garrett and Jerry end up doing.
