2011 NFL Draft: Dallas Cowboys Pick Shaun Chapas

With the 17th pick in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys selected Shaun Chapas, running back, from the University of Georgia.

Chapas, listed at 6'2", 247 lbs, has poor speed as he ran a 4.91 40 yard dash at the combine. Chapas' role will likely be as a blocking back, as the Cowboys further try to protect quarterback Tony Romo in this draft.

NFL.com offers this analysis of Chapas:

Chapas is a gritty football player with a throwback mentality, but he does not have the bulk or athleticism to be a lead blocker in the NFL. Although he flashes the ability to make difficult catches, he is a very raw receiver and will not be able to assume an H-back role at the next level. However, he has a relentless motor and good pop at the point of attack. He also can be effective in short yardage situations on his terrific effort alone. Chapas will likely be a day 3 pick, as he has a great attitude and is a coach's dream.
