NFL Combine: Greg McElroy Out With Broken Finger

The combine is a nice opportunity for someone like Southlake's Greg McElroy to impress scouts, but he won't be throwing any passes. McElroy broke his right index finger at the Senior Bowl but apparently didn't have it diagnosed correctly initially. He is able to do some physical work and has the opportunity to show off his big brain to clubs in interviews. Alabama's pro day is March 9, and McElroy's finger likely won't be ready by then, so he will have to schedule a separate workout with interested teams.

Calvin Watkins notes that Dallas won't be interviewing McElroy at the combine:

It hasn't stopped NFL teams from talking to him. At least 12 teams have spoken to McElroy, including the Green Bay Packers.

The Cowboys have not talked to him. McElroy, whose father, Greg McElroy, a senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Cowboys, doesn't expect them too.

"I think they've seen enough of me," joked Greg McElroy.

Given that he is from the area and the connection with his father, the lack of a combine interview likely doesn't mean much, as invitations to Valley Ranch are typically a much bigger indicator of their interest in players, and there is likely already some familiarity.
