NFL Combine: Cowboys Want To Interview Cam Newton

The Cowboys acknowledged a bit of a surprise Thursday, confirming that Cam Newton is one of the 60 players that they intend to interview at the NFL combine.

"I think obviously that position of quarterback you're immediately going to start looking for leadership," [team vice president Stephen] Jones said. "You're going to start looking for intangibles, and his physical abilities are pretty good. As far as in an interview, you're looking for a guy who is going to be the face of your organization that you feel like will be a leader for your team and is a winner."

Newton has been slotted on many outsiders' boards in the vicinity of Dallas' pick at No. 9. With Tony Romo signed for three more years it's hard to make sense of the team drafting Newton unless they become convinced that he is an elite talent.

After the jump, check out ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer and Calvin Watkins discussing Jason Garrett's meeting with Mike Krzyzewski.
