NFL Playoff Scenarios: Giants Eliminate Eagles With Win Over Jets

It looks like the Giants/Cowboys rematch on New Year's Day will be for all the marbles in the NFC East. The Giants defeated the Jets today in the Battle of New York, eliminating the Eagles from playoff contention with the win. New York's win also means that Dallas' game against Philadelphia is irrelevant, as next week's game against the Giants is the only game that matters.

Philadelphia needed to win today and have the Giants lose this week, and then needed the Giants to defeat the Cowboys next week to have everybody in the division finish at 8-8 -- as the Eagles would have held the tiebreaker. New York's win today makes that irrelevant, though, as either the Giants or Cowboys will end up with nine wins after next week.

So, it all comes down to Week 17 for the Cowboys. A win gives them a home playoff game in the Death Star, and a loss sends Tony Romo et al. to the golf course.
