After the New York Giants blocked a last-second Dallas Cowboys field attempt to secure a 37-34 road upset last Sunday night, they looked like a team on the rise.
Now, after New York failed to show up in a baffling 23-10 loss to the Washington Redskins, while Dallas handled business against a Tampa Bay team already looking at tee times, Dallas is back in first place in the NFC East and No. 13 in SBNation's latest NFL Power Rankings:
13. Dallas Cowboys (8-6, LW: 14): Dallas leads the division by one game which means they control their destiny. Big Week 17 game against the Giants still looms.
If both teams win next Sunday, their Week 17 game will determine the division title. However, that's hardly a given, as the Cowboys hosts a suddenly hot Philadelphia team while New York faces their cross-town rival the Jets on Sunday.
Even more improbably, in a sign of how weak the NFC East has been this year, if both teams lose, than the currently 6-8 Eagles would have a chance to sneak into the playoffs at 8-8.
