It's one thing for a team to draft their prized asset, but a contract is needed to officially add him to the team. Fans of the Washington Redskins have been hoping that there would be no holdout or long wait to see Robert Griffin III. Now that the former Baylor quarterback is signed and ready to play in training camp when rookies report, there should be no delay on getting a look at the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
The Skins paid handsomely to get RG3 from the St. Louis Rams, and they are also paying their quarterback quite well. Details are now out about RG3's contract and Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk has the latest.
Florio writes, "The contract has a value of $21,119,098, including a $13,799,344 signing bonus. Per a source with knowledge of the deal, the base salaries are $390,000 in 2012, $1.34 million in 2013, $2.30 million in 2014, and $3.26 million in 2015."
Griffin is expected to be the starter from day one for a team sorely in need of a playmaker at quarterback. Kirk Cousins was also drafted from Michigan State and will also compete for time.
