NFL Draft Rumors: Cowboys High On Memphis DT Dontari Poe

Over at Draftinsider.com, Sports Illustrated writer Tony Pauline has this interesting note about what the Dallas Cowboys are thinking in the weeks leading up to the NFL Draft:

On the Monday of the combine, when we reported the Dallas Cowboys were the favorites to sign free agent cornerback Brandon Carr, we also posted the team was looking heavily at offensive lineman Cordy Glenn. Several sources have told us in recent weeks the franchise has shifted its focus to the defensive line and as of today Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe is the apple of their eyes.

Poe, a 6'4 345 defensive tackle from Memphis, has skyrocketed up NFL draft boards in recent weeks due to his off-the-charts test results at the Combine.

Despite his ample size, he ran a 4.86 40 and a 1.6 10-yard dash, respectable numbers for an edge rusher or a linebacker, all while bench pressing 225 pounds 44 times.

He seems like the ideal 3-4 DT that would allow Dallas to shift Jay Ratliff over to end, but for all his physical talent, there are many questions about his overall effort level and production in college.

In 2011, he had 33 tackles with 8 coming behind the line of scrimmage and 1 sack.

A video of the 40-yard dash which made Poe an awful lot of money:
