It's finally official, as the Washington Redskins have confirmed they will select Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 overall pick.

It's a bit unfortunate for Baylor and Dallas Cowboys fans that Griffin is headed to one of Dallas' biggest rivals. RG3 has called Texas home ever since 1997, as he graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 2008, where he played basketball, track and football.

RG3 originally committed to attend the University of Houston, where Art Briles recruited him. Briles, though, left to coach at Baylor, and RG3 followed him.

For Griffin, it was one of the best decisions of his life to follow Briles to Baylor. RG3 started immediately for Baylor, and had a successful freshman campaign in 2008, throwing for 2,091 yards and 15 touchdowns, while adding 843 yards rushing.

RG3 would suffer a major setback in 2009, though, as he tore his ACL in just the third game of the season. The year off might have been a blessing in disguise for Griffin, as he came back better than ever in 2010, throwing for over 3,500 yards and 22 touchdowns.

Of course, RG3's Heisman winning 2011 campaign catapulted his draft stock, and put Baylor football squarely in the national spotlight. RG3 was able to wrestle away the Heisman trophy from Andrew Luck after passing for 4,293 yards and 37 touchdowns while rushing for 699 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Now on Thursday night, Griffin's journey to the NFL is finally complete. Mike Shanahan has bet the future of the Washington Redskins franchise on Griffin, as Shanahan sent the No. 6 and No. 39 picks in this year's draft, as well as Washington's first rounders in 2013 and 2014 in order to move up to No. 2 overall to select Griffin.

Games between the Cowboys and Redskins have always been big games. They're now going to be bigger, especially in Dallas, when it'll be a sort of homecoming for Griffin.

Even if you're a diehard Cowboys fan, it's going to be tough to root against him.
