The Baylor Bears had a great season in 2011 with quarterback Robert Griffin III behind the wheel of a potent offense. Griffin was rewarded with the Heisman Trophy and likely the No. 2 overall selection slot in the 2012 NFL Draft. Now, it appears the recent successes of the football program will be similarly rewarded.
At 1:00 p.m. CT on Tuesday, the team is expected to announce that they are beginning construction on a new football stadium, according to Mark C. Moore at Our Daily Bears.
It appears that the new stadium will be possible largely due to a huge donation from former Houston Astros owner Drayton McLane to the Baylor athletics department. The donation is expected to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $65 million.
The mew stadium is to be built next to the Brazos River.
