With the stretch run of the college football season now in front of us, the race for the 2012 Heisman Trophy is starting to come into focus.
As it stands, according to the latest Heisman Watch from CBS Sports, Kansas State QB Collin Klein is still the clear front-runner, with Texas A&M star Johnny Manziel hot on his heels.
Klein, the clear engine of the No. 1 team in the country, has been remarkably efficient this season: completing 69.7% of his passes for 2,020 yards and throwing 12 TD's to only 3 INT's while adding 748 yards and 19 TD's rushing on a 4.9 yards per carry average.
The leading candidates on the other two undefeated teams -- Manti Te'o of Notre Dame and Kenjon Barner of Oregon -- aren't QB's and don't have as many chances to rack up the types of statistics Heisman voters generally prefer.
That means that if Klein and Kansas State stumble in either of their last two games against Baylor or Texas, the door is open for Johnny Football to swoop in and put his name in the history books.
