College Bowl Game Picks: Georgia Tech Over Air Force In Independence Bowl

We're creeping towards the end of 2010 and start of 2011 - which means that all the best bowl games are coming up soon. This week will feature a pair of BCS bowl games on New Year's Day with TCU taking on Wisconsin and the Rose Bowl while the Connecticut Huskies look to upset the heavily favored Oklahoma Sooners at night in the Fiesta Bowl. There are plenty of worthwhile bowl games leading up to the BCS games to kick off 2011 of course, and the best bowl week of the year gets started tonight with the Independence Bowl.

Air Force will take on Georgia Tech tonight in the Independence Bowl. The Falcons went 8-4 this year while going 5-3 in Mountain West Conference play. The Yellow Jackets went 6-6 and a meager 4-4 in ACC play. Despite the shoddy conference record, Georgia Tech ranked first in the entire FBS in rushing - averaging 327 rush yards per game. Not to be outdone too much, Air Force was second in the FBS in rushing, averaging 318 yards per game on the ground.

Air Force are three point favorites, partially because they did have a better defense this year. Despite this, I'll take Georgia Tech to beat Air Force. Both teams run the option offense - but Georgia Tech uses the spread version while Air Force uses the triple option offense. I'll take the Yellow Jackets and their spread option to cover and win the game.
