Jason Terry got a tattoo of the NBA's championship trophy before the 2010-11 season, and it worked out for him with the Mavericks. "Jet" is now trying the same trick as a member of the Celtics, having left Dallas for Boston this summer.
Terry's guaranteeing the Celtics will win the 2013 NBA title too, but more importantly that that, this ink looks way sharper than the other tattoo, doesn't it?

Ware, Austin, and Witten are three of the eight starters who won't go against San Diego.
Dallas looks to return to its winning ways against Chicago on Friday night.

The Dallas Stars (39-27-5) lost to the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday to end their six-game winning streak, but they have a chance to start another string of Ws when the Chicago Blackhawks (38-25-8) come to town on Friday night.

Kari Lehtonen's return to the crease could help Dallas. Lehtonen was on fire during the Stars' winning streak, but Dallas spelled him with Richard Bachman against Winnipeg, and Bachman conceded five goals.

The middling Dallas offense got two goals from Loui Eriksson and nothing else in the loss to Winnipeg, and could use more production out of Michael Ryder. The winger has one point in his last two games, and hasn't had a goal and an assist in a game since the last time Dallas played Chicago, a 3-1 win on February 23.

If Ryder can match his goal and assist from that game against the high-scoring Blackhawks on Friday, Dallas stands a much better chance of keeping up.

No. 6 Cincinnati presents a few matchup problems for No. 11 Texas in the two teams' Friday matchup in the Second Round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament. But while Peter Bean of Burnt Orange Nation thinks that the Longhorns might go to a zone to deal with foul trouble, he suspects that Rick Barnes will stick to man defense on Yancy Gates:

I think Texas can live with a productive game from (Yancy) Gates if it does a good job preventing Cincinnati from getting easy looks from three, whether in transition or the halfcourt. Moreover, as effective as Gates can be, the one thing he doesn't do nearly as well as you'd expect is draw fouls -- as reflected in his very pedestrian 31.7 FTRate.

Given all that, I expect that a zone defense will be something that Rick Barnes retreats to if Texas finds itself in foul trouble, but that otherwise the Longhorns will do their best to defend Gates in man defense, aggressively try to deny entry passes, live with whatever he's able to score, and force Cincinnati's guards to be productive without open three pointers to shoot. As another Texas coach was fond of saying: "Dance with the one that brung ya."

The Cowboys meet the Giants in the Meadowlands for a winner-take-the-NFC-East clash on Sunday night.

The Week 17 showdown between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants will determine the NFC East, and is perhaps the most important game of the final week of the 2011 NFL season. The Cowboys will be looking for revenge, too, after a Week 14 loss to the Giants left them looking up at their blue-clad division rivals.

Tony Romo, injured in a Week 16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, is probable for the Sunday showdown with a bruised hand, as are DeMarcus Ware and Laurent Robinson. The Giants will play without tight end Jake Ballard, who has become one of Eli Manning's most reliable targets.

The winner of Sunday's game will win the NFC East, and earn the No. 4 seed in the NFC for the 2011 NFL playoffs. That team will be able to welcome the conference's No. 5 seed to either MetLife Stadium or Cowboys Stadium for a NFC Wild Card round game.

Game date, time: 8:20 p.m. Eastern, Sunday, January 1

Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey

The Houston Cougars have played in 21 bowl games in the program's history; their 2011 TicketCity Bowl match-up against Penn State will be the Cougars' 22nd, and first against Penn State — or any Big Ten team, for that matter. But Houston has had mixed results in those bowl games, compiling an 8-11-1 bowl record.

The Cougars' bowl history began in 1952, when they beat the Dayton Flyers in the immortal Salad Bowl. Houston would not return to a bowl game until 1962, when coach Bill Yeoman's Cougars topped Miami of Ohio in the Tangerine Bowl. Yeoman's teams would make 11 bowls, and finished 6-4-1 in those games; Houston was 7-2-1 in its first 10 bowl appearances.

But between a victory in the 1980 Garden State Bowl and 2008's Armed Forces Bowl, the Cougars went winless in postseason play, dropping eight straight bowl appearances. That was an especially frustrating feature of Art Briles' tenure: he led Houston back to relevance in the mid-2000s, but his Cougars lost all three bowls they appeared in, with his defenses giving up 54, 42, and 44 points in those three games.

Kevin Sumlin went 1-1 in bowls before leaving to take the head coach position at Texas A&M, ending Houston's streak in 2008, but the Cougars reverted to old habits in the 2009 Armed Forces Bowl, falling 47-20 to Air Force. Interim head coach Tony Levine will try to avoid that in Saturday's meeting with Penn State.

BYU's final gambit in the 2011 Armed Forces Bowl recalled one of the more clever moments in football's history. And it worked: the Cougars scored a game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds left after Riley Nelson faked a spike and threw a touchdown pass to Cody Hoffman, and BYU won the Armed Forces Bowl, 24-21.

The fourth quarter touchdown capped a BYU comeback from a 14-3 deficit in the second quarter. Nelson found Hoffman with 12 seconds left in the first half to make the deficit 14-10 at halftime, then again in the third quarter to take a 17-14 lead. Nelson completed just 17 of his 40 passes, but threw for 250 yards and three touchdowns; Hoffman had eight catches for 122 yards and the three scores.

Tulsa's G.J. Kinne threw for 214 yards and three scores of his own, and Bryan Burnham had four catches for 112 yards for the Golden Hurricane.

The New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys will duel for the NFC East in Week 17. Eli Manning's supporting cast, often potent, may be a little less so in the Giants' regular season finale.

Manning will miss tight end Jake Ballard, who has developed into a reliable safety valve, but is out with a knee injury. And he won't have Ahmad Bradshaw, Hakeem Nicks, or Mario Manningham at tip-top shape, either: all are probable with various injuries.

The Dallas Cowboys face a must-win game in New York in Week 17: win, and the Cowboys will win the NFC East and host at least one game in the 2011 NFL playoffs; lose, and their season is over. And so it's a good thing that Felix Jones and Sean Lee are the Cowboys' only major contributors listed as questionable or worse for Week 17.

Lee is dealing with a wrist injury that has bothered him all year, while Jones has a hamstring injury. Both are listed as questionable for Week 17.

The Cowboys aren't without their fair share of bumps and bruises, though: Tony Romo, DeMarcus Ware, Jay Ratliff, Laurent Robinson, and Mike Jenkins are all listed as probable with various injuries.

What can't Robert Griffin III do? The Baylor quarterback stoking excitement for the 2011 Alamo Bowl, typically not one of bowl season's hottest tickets, to a level that the bowl has only rarely seen in its 18-year existence.

Sales are "very steady, and we’re trying to find more and more seats," bowl spokesman Rick Hill said. "We just put some more obstructed view seats for sale in the system. We’re training toward a capacity crowd at kickoff."

The capacity crowd would be 65,000 fans strong, and the Alamo Bowl has only had seven games with 65K-plus on hand in its history. Of those games, all but one featured a Texas team, and four of them featured either Texas or Texas A&M.

Baylor has played in the Alamo Bowl before, in 1994, but drew the fewest fans in the bowl's history, with just 44,106 coming out to see the Bears fall to Washington State.
