The second round of the 2012 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club is in the books, and Jim Furyk finds himself atop the leaderboard after a 6-under 64 on Friday afternoon in Atlanta.
Furyk, who shot an opening round 69 (1-under), came out of the gates on fire on Friday, with seven birdies through his first 10 holes. He faltered a bit on the back nine as he bogeyed three of his final six holes. He leads Justin Rose by a single stroke, while Bo Van Pelt and Bubba Watson are tied for third place at 5-under.
FedEx Cup points leader Rory McIlroy, who can lock up the Cup with a win at East Lake, fired a 2-under 68 to tie him for seventh place on the leaderboard. Tiger Woods, who can also win the cup with a tournament win, struggled Friday afternoon and posted a 3-over 73.
Texas native Hunter Mahan struggled in the second round, shooting a 3-over 73 that has him stuck tied for 22nd place in the field of 30 golfers.
