Carl Pettersson shot a 6-under 66 and is alone in first place in the first round of the PGA Championship in Kiawah Island, S.C.
Pettersson made six birdies with no bogeys for his round. Former Oklahoma State golfer and Colleyville resident Hunter Mahan shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 45th, while Dallas native Scott Verplank shot a 3-over 75. Among other notable names, Rory McIlroy is tied for second at -5, Tiger Woods is three shots back after shooting a 3-under 69 and Phil Mickelson shot a 1-over 73.
