Weather hasn't been much of a factor in early returns from the first round of the PGA, as the course on Kiawah Island, South Carolina has been very forgiving on Thursday.
Three golfers -- Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland, Carl Petterrson of Sweden and Joost Luiten of the Netherlands -- are tied for the early lead at -5.
It's the best McIlory, considered one of the rising stars in golf, has played in a major since falling from his perch as the world's No. 1 player earlier in the year.
Tiger Woods (-2) is lurking with a decent start while former Texas A&M golfer Ryan Palmer, who was born in Amarillo and lives in Colleyville, is right behind him at -1.
Former Oklahoma State golfers Hunter Mahan (who also lives in Colleyville) and Scott Verplank (who was born in Dallas) are set to tee off at 12:10 and 1:10 PM Central, respectively.
