2012 Olympics Medal Count: China Leads Gold, USA Leads Overall

A strong day in track and field has the United States of America in first place in the overall medal count at the 2012 Olympics.

American Olympians lead all countries with 81 medals. The United States has captured 34 gold, 22 silver and 25 bronze medals.

China is right on the United States' heels with 77 overall medals. Chinese Olympians lead all countries with 36 gold medals. China has also captured 22 silver and 19 bronze through Wednesday's events.

Russia sits in third place, well behind both China and the United States. Russia has captured 52 medals to date, with 11 gold, 19 silver and 22 bronze medals.

Host nation Great Britain is in fourth place with 48, but do have 22 gold medals. Germany rounds out the top five with 32 overall medals, but the Germans only have seven gold medals.
