The Mark Cuban memory tour continues, as the Mavericks owner has been hitting the interview circuit on local radio over the last week.
↵One of the most interesting nuggets he shared was how close the team came to acquiring Kobe Bryant in 2007, when the Lakers superstar was demanding a trade to a championship contender:
↵↵↵"When I was doing Dancing with the Stars, I was taking breaks because I was talking to Kobe's agent because Kobe wanted to get traded," Cuban said. "Literally, between Dancing with the Stars practices I had thought we traded for Kobe Bryant. I even talked to their owner and thought we were going to have done deal, and [Lakers GM] Mitch Kupchak changed [Kobe's] mind and brought him back."
↵
At that time, a likely deal would have revolved around Josh Howard and Devin Harris, which would have been a laughably low return for the Lakers.
↵A lot has happened in the NBA over the last five years, which is probably why Cuban brought the story up in the first place. The Mavericks may no longer be a title contender, but who knows what the future holds? After all, the team does have the "flexibility" to make a major move.
