Trevone Boykin will serve as backup quarterback to Casey Pachall, TCU Horned Frogs head coach Gary Patterson announced (via Stefan Stevenson).

Boykin, a redshirt freshman from Mesquite, Texas, was the No. 37-ranked QB according to Rivals upon signing with TCU as part of their 2011 recruiting class. At 6-feet-2 and 215 pounds, Boykin proved to be tough to stop in high school, as he accounted for over 9,000 total yards and 100 touchdowns. Now, he'll be waiting in the wings behind Pachall, who threw for 2,921 yards and 25 touchdowns last season for the Frogs, who finished 11-2.

The Horned Frogs are ranked No. 20 in the first AP poll of 2012, and open their season on Sep. 8 at Amon G. Carter Stadium vs. Grambling State.
