Mike Napoli Injury: Catcher Lands On Disabled List With Strained Left Quad

Texas Rangers starting catcher Mike Napoli has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left quad which he suffered in the prior home stand which was against the Los Angeles Angels which was July 30 - Aug. 2. Napoli also sat out the last two games against the Boston Red Sox earlier this week to see if rest would help him recover.

After a few days off Napoli was in the lineup Friday night against the Detroit Tigers and went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. Rest did not help Napoli so the Rangers put him on the disabled list Saturday afternoon.

Replacing Napoli in the lineup will be catcher Luis Martinez who is getting the call up from the Rangers Triple-A Round Rock affiliate. The primary catcher for the Rangers while Napoli is out will be Geovany Soto with Martinez filling in when Soto needs a day off. Napoli will be eligible to come off of the disabled list on Aug. 26.
