The 2012 Summer Olympics are almost here. The opening ceremony is a week away, and the eyes of the world will soon turn to London, England, where the world's greatest athletes will compete for gold.
In all, 21 athletes either from the Dallas area or local colleges are heading to London to compete.
Here is the rundown of Dallas-area athletes participating in the 2012 Olympics. Nine athletes are from the region:

Darvis "Doc" Patton (Dallas) - Track & Field (Team USA)
There also are 12 athletes from outside the Dallas area with local college ties heading to London:
