Dallas Baptist starter Taylor Massey threw a four-hit shutout and the Patriots had little trouble in their NCAA Tournament opener, downing UT-Arlington 10-0 on Friday.
Dallas Baptist first got on the board with five hits and four runs in the bottom of the third. A single and a sac fly scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Catcher Duncan McAlpine led off the sixth with a solo home run to extend the lead to 7-0. Finally, the Patrios added three more in the eighth.
Dallas Baptist finished with 18 hits on the day, while UT-Arlington had just four. The Patriots were led at the plate by shortstop Joel Hutter, who went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and a run scored. Outfielder Landon Anderson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
UT-Arlington was led by designated hitter Matt Shortall, who went 3-for-4. Starter Lance Day lasted four innings after giving up four runs.
