The first day of the Mountain West baseball tournament had a very exciting first game when TCU held of San Diego State's ninth inning comeback to win 16-15. San Diego State was trailing 14-4 heading into the top of the ninth inning and then proceeded to chip away at the TCU lead and went on to score 11 runs to take a 15-14 lead.
TCU came back in the bottom of the ninth to win the game when Brett Johnson hit a game-winning single with the bases loaded to ultimately win 16-15.
In the other game between top seeded New Mexico and No. 4 seeded UNLV was a rout when New Mexico won 13-0. New Mexico scored nine runs in the second inning to put the game away early.

• No. 3 San Diego State vs. No. 4 UNLV, 4 p.m. TV: The Mtn.
• No. 2 TCU vs. No. 1 New Mexico, 8 p.m. TV: The Mtn.
