2012 Preakness Contenders: Daddy Nose Best

Despite only finishing 10th in the Kentucky Derby, Daddy Nose Best will be running in the 2012 Preakness -- and he's a bit of a longshot to win this year's Preakness. Though the official odds won't be made available until after the post position draw on Wednesday night, unofficial odds have Daddy Nose Best at 15/1 odds to win the race.

Daddy Nose Best's owners are Cathy and Bob Zollars, who reside in Dallas, Texas. Not surprisingly, Daddy Nose Best is trained by a Texan as well, as Steve Asmussen of Laredo, Texas, is his trainer.

Prior to the Kentucky Derby, Daddy Nose Best had won back-to-back races, and three of his last four, dating back to last November. The 10th place finish by Daddy Nose Best at the Kentucky Derby was his worst finish of his career -- but it was also likely in the largest field that he's ever raced in.

The Preakness is a shorter track than the Kentucky Derby -- as the Derby is 1 and 1/4 miles, whereas the Preakness is 1 and 3/16. Daddy Nose Best's two most recent wins came on tracks that were 1 and 1/8 miles, so it's quite possible that Daddy Nose Best is trained more for a track like the Preakness rather than the Kentucky Derby.

We'll see where Daddy Nose Best will be breaking out of the post on Wednesday night when the post positions draw is held, and what odds he'll receive for the 2012 Preakness.
