The University of North Texas and five other schools are set to join Conference USA starting in 2013, according to a report by CBS Sports. The move would be a response to the Big East's recent raid on C-USA, which resulted in the loss of Houston, SMU, UCF and Memphis starting in '13.

Joining the Mean Green in the revamped C-USA will be Florida International, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Texas San Antonio, Charlotte and Old Dominion, according to the CBS report. Unlike UNT, Charlotte and Old Dominon do not have FBS football programs (Charlotte's football program will begin play in 2013). Texas San Antonio will play their first full FBS season this fall in the WAC with Louisiana Tech, while FIU is a current Sun Belt member with UNT.

The Mean Green entered FCS play in 1995, joining the Sun Belt in 2001. Under Daryl Dickey, UNT football won the Sun Belt four times, and went 1-3 in four subsequent New Orleans Bowl appearances.
