The North Texas Mean Green are now in the market for a new basketball coach as Johnny Jones had reportedly been hired away to take over for his alma mater the LSU Tigers. Jones lifted North Texas to new heights by leading the school to five seasons of 20 wins which is one more than the school had in their previous 20 years.
North Texas athletic director Rick Villarreal has come out and say that he does not want a coach just looking for his first job, but someone who has a track record of winning:
"You probably need somebody that you're not taking a chance he's pulling the trigger for the first time," Villarreal said. "That's my preference. As a program, we're at that point."
Even though North Texas' profile was raise up by Jones success over the past decade, Villarreal needs to realize that North Texas is in the Sun Belt and finding an experienced head coach may prove to be more difficult than he realizes.
