Texas Bats Pound Texas A&M-Corpus Christi: Longhorns Win 9-2

Offense has rarely been in short supply for Texas’ baseball team this year, and the Longhorns continued their hot ways against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Tuesday night, winning 9-2.

Third baseman Erich Weiss went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Mark Payton knocked in another three runs, and Jonathan Walsh and Alex Silver both drove in two. The Longhorns scored their runs while hitting only two doubles and no triples or homers, stringing together runs with singles, walks and sacrifices.

Texas starter Dillon Peters earned his second win with three shutout innings, allowing only one hit and striking out three. Parker French and Hoby Milner both pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Islanders starter Jake Dziubczynski took the loss after the Longhorns chased him with seven hits in 2.2 innings.

The win opened a nine-game homestand for Texas at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. The ‘Horns (18-12, 7-2) host Oklahoma State Friday at 6 p.m. in the opener for Texas’ first Big 12 home series of the season.
