Unfortunately for the University of Texas, the women's Longhorns went down just like the men's did -- with a first round exit in the NCAA tournament. Texas fell to West Virginia on Saturday, losing 68-55 to their soon-to-be conference foe.
The ninth-seeded Longhorns trailed by 13 at the half, and could only muster 18 first half points, eerily similar to the men's team that scored just 17 in the first half against Cincinnati.
Texas had no answer for Taylor Palmer in the second half, as she scored 13 of her 18 points in the second half, helping to thwart any type of Longhorns comeback. Palmer also added five rebounds and three assists.
Texas shot just 28% from the field, connecting on just 19-of-68 shots. West Virginia, meanwhile, were 24-of-50 from the field, good for 48%.
Ashley Gayle led the Longhorns in the losing effort in both scoring and rebounds, scoring 11 points and adding 10 rebounds.
