UT Arlington Vs. Washington: Mavericks Go Down Early In NIT Tournament 2012

The best season in the history of the UT Arlington Mavericks basketball program came to an end on Tuesday night with an 82-72 loss to the Washington Huskies in their opening match of the NIT Tournament.

The Southland Conference-regular season champion Mavericks led 59-58 with 9:56 left to play after Kevin Butler scored on a layup. But UT Arlington could not hold. The Pac-12's regular season champion Huskies went on a 9-0 run in the last six minutes of the game to bury the Mavericks late. This is what UT Arlington head coach Scott Cross said after the game.

"Washington hit some big shots during that run and pulled just a little too far away from us. They are a talented team that won the Pac-12 title and they showed tonight why they were able to do that."

LaMarcus Reed led UTA with 20 points and Ingram scored 17. Terrence Ross led all scorers with 23 points on the night.
