The SMU Mustangs have fired head coach Matt Doherty, according a report from Gary Parish at CBSSports.com as well as other sources.
Doherty spent six seasons leading the SMU program to a 80-108 record, while only finishing as high as 7th in Conference USA in that time span. SMU finished the 2011-12 season with a 13-18 overall record and went 4-1 in league action.

At one point in the season, SMU dropped eight of nine games, then lost two of the next three. The Mustangs fell to Marshall in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament, 74-56.
It is unclear who will replace Doherty and the SMU Mustangs have not posted an announcement on their athletic website or given a public statement.
