More: Mavs can't capitalize, come up short against Lakers
The Dallas Mavericks weren't able to keep their momentum of seven wins in eight games going on Wednesday night, losing at home to the Lakers 96-91. Dirk Nowitzki had 25 points and 12 rebounds and Vince Carter scored 20 points, but Dallas failed to keep pace with L.A. late in a game featuring 11 ties and eight lead changes in the second half.
Shawn Marion defended Kobe Bryant well - the All-Star was limited to only 15 points - but the Lakers used a 9-0 run including a Derek Fisher three to seal the game with under four minutes remaining. Former Laker Lamar Odom did not play against his old team. He was excused to deal with an undisclosed family matter.
The Mavericks are off through the All-Star break, and resume play Tuesday at home against the New Jersey Nets.
