Despite being just one win better on the season than the Purdue Boilermakers, the Oklahoma St. Cowboys are favored by 18-points ahead of the Heart of Dallas Bowl on New Years Day at the Cotton Bowl.
Part of the reason for the Cowboys being such a heavy favorite might be their ability to score points. OSU ranks fourth in the BCS, scoring an average of 44.7 points per contest.
Purdue didn't have a particularly good season despite their bowl birth. They lost five games in a row during the Big Ten season and only became bowl eligible by winning their last three. Though that sounds impressive, they beat three teams in the Iowa Hawkeyes, Illinois Fighting Illini and Indiana Hoosiers who combined for just four conference wins all year. Purdue is also looking for a head coach after letting Danny Hope go after four seasons.
This will be just the third edition of the Heart of Dallas Bowl and neither Oklahoma State or Purdue has appeared in the game before. The game is scheduled to kick off at 11:00 a.m. CT; you can watch on ESPNU.
