The SMU Mustangs suffered their second Conference USA loss of the season Saturday, a 42-17 defeat at Central Florida. At 4-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play, SMU is tied with Houston for second place in the C-USA West Division.
Tulsa (7-2, 5-0) remains the top team in the West. The Golden Hurricane went out of conference and nearly upset Arkansas, falling 19-15 in Fayetteville. Houston (4-5, 3-2) traveled to East Carolina and took a lopsided 48-28 loss. Rice (4-6, 2-4) was the only West team to win in Week 9, picking up a 49-47 victory at Tulane (2-7, 2-3).
In the East, Central Florida's victory kept the Knights (7-2, 5-0) on top of the division. East Carolina (6-4, 5-1) remains in second place, a half game behind UCF. UAB (2-7, 1-4) and Southern Miss (0-9, 0-5) met in a matchup of teams looking for their first conference win, and the Blazers came away with a 27-19 victory.
