Mavericks expected to waive Eddy Curry after signing Troy Murphy, according to report

Eddy Curry is expected to be waived by the Dallas Mavericks to make room for Troy Murphy, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The Dallas Mavericks made a move to improve their Dirk Nowitzki-less front court on Thursday when they went out and signed Troy Murphy. To make room on the roster, the Mavs were required to waive a player, and someone like Dominique Jones was the expected target. Instead, they have decided to waive recently acquired center Eddy Curry, as tweeted by ESPN's Marc Stein on Friday morning.

The Mavs picked up Curry only a week ago, giving him 17 minutes against the Lakers in their first game of the season and eight minutes against the Jazz in their second. The big man averaged 4.5 points and two rebounds in the two games he was used by the Mavs. Dallas went 1-1 in the first two games of the season with Curry on the team.

Curry's stats with the Mavs in those two games are close to what Murphy put up last year with the Lakers -- the 11-year veteran forward put up 3.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game last season.
