Counting end zones, a football field is 120 yards long, but the Dallas Cowboys needed it to be one inch longer on Sunday. Dez Bryant appears to catch the game-winning touchdown pass with mere seconds remaining, but his hand came down first just barely out of bounds as Dallas was unable to come back from down 23-0 to beat the New York Giants.
The Cowboys managed to take a 24-23 lead with 3:43 left int he third quarter on a one yard TD catch from John Phillips, but two Lawrence Tynes field goals in the fourth quarter were enough to give the Giants revenge for Dallas' season opening win in New York.
With the loss Dallas fell to 3-4 and missed a chance to hold the season tiebreaker over New York:
Dez Bryant, the butt of so many jokes, insults, derisive jeers throughout the season (and prior) ran a beautiful double move with under 20 seconds to go, leaped into the air between two defenders and hauled in the game winning catch. Except, it wasn't. Using his hand to brace his fall, his fingers landed outside of the endzone before his rear hit the turf; incomplete. Effectively game over. Star-crossed.
Dallas nearly won despite four interceptions from Tony Romo, who also threw for 437 yards, but just one touchdown. Romo also rushed for a TD.
