Texas Rangers rookie Martin Perez has a chance to etch his name into Texas' history book on Monday night, as the Rangers travel to Oakland to take on the Oakland Athletics, with the AL West crown hanging in the balance.
The Rangers need just one more regular season win to clinch a third straight AL West title, and Perez will be on the Rangers on Monday night, looking to give the Rangers a strong starting effort after the Rangers played a doubleheader on Sunday.
Perez hasn't recorded a win since June 30, and hasn't even appeared in a Rangers victory since. Perez was obliterated by the A's last week, giving up five runs on six hits, while recording just two outs in the first inning. Perez will look for redemption on Monday night, against the very same Athletics team that made him look silly last week.
The A's, meanwhile, can clinch a playoff berth with a win on Monday. Oakland currently leads both Los Angeles and Tampa Bay by three games with three to play. Oakland still has an outside chance at the AL West title, but will need to sweep the Rangers to make that dream a reality.
Jarrod Parker will start for Oakland on Monday night, less than a week after defeating the Rangers in Arlington. Parker is 12-8 on the season through 175 and 1/3 innings, with a 3.44 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. Parker has held opposing hitters to a .248 average.
First pitch is scheduled for 9:05 p.m. CT from the O.co Coliseum. Televised coverage can be found on FOX Sports Southwest.
