J'Covan Brown and Clint Chapman scored 19 points each but the Texas Longhorns dropped their conference opener 77-71 to Iowa State. The Cyclones filled it up in the first half from beyond the arc and held on in the second half despite a couple of big runs from the Longhorns.
After trailing 44-34 at the half, Texas began the second half with a 10-0 run that tied the game 44-44. Iowa State then responded with a 16-3 run to take a 60-47 lead with 11:41 remaining in the game. Texas wasn't finished though as they once again rallied to within 73-69 with just 41 seconds remaining. However, the Longhorns would never get any closer and eventually fell 77-71.
Clint Chapman added 14 rebounds to go along with his 19 points. J'Covan Brown hit 7-10 shots and also came up with three steals for the Longhorns. Sheldon McClellan had a tough shooting night but got to the free throw line 12 times and finished with 14 points.
Chris Babb scored a team-high 17 points to lead Iowa State. Royce White added 14 points while Chris Allen and Scott Christopherson added 13 and 12 respectively. The Cyclones hit 51 percent of their shots in the game including 10-21 from beyond-the-arc.
