The Glen Gulutzan era officially began Tuesday night, as his Dallas Stars opened their preseason with a 6-3 win over the Canadiens in Montreal. Dallas had six different goal scorers - Brenden Morrow, Adam Pardy and Michael Ryder in the first, Krys Barch and Mike Ribeiro in the second, and Matt Fraser in the third - and 13 different Stars picked up either a goal or an assist.
Andrew Raycroft got the start and stopped eight of 11 shots, while Tyler Beskorowany stopped all eight shots he faced in relief. Ribeiro picked up the first star after being booed all night, and linemate Morrow was the second star. Dallas converted both of its power plays, while Montreal converted one of four, failing on two third period man advantages as they tried to reduce the margin. The Stars outshot the Habs overall 25-19.
Dallas will welcome Colorado to town in their preseason home opener Thursday night at 7:30 before hosting St. Louis Saturday night. The regular season opens October 7 for Dallas against the Chicago Blackhawks. In a strange start to the season, the two teams will shuttle up to Chicago to meet the next night.
