Dallas Baptist Baseball Will Join WAC

The Western Athletic Conference announced Monday that Dallas Baptist University has accepted their invitation to join their league to compete in baseball for the 2013 season. DBU has made its way from the NAIA level a decade ago to earning an NCAA Super Regional birth this summer as an independent. Now, after two NCAA tournament appearances, it will compete in a league full of viable baseball programs.

The WAC is scheduled to have a ten-team league a year from now - DBU, Cal State Bakersfield, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Seattle, UT-Arlington, UT-San Antonio, and Texas State. That would be one Louisiana school, four from Texas, three from California, one from New Mexico, and one from Washington, meaning that the school will still log lots of travel miles.

DBU's head coach Dan Heefner is pleased:

The invitation and acceptance to join the WAC is a testament to where this program has been and the support we receive from our administration. It is going to be an extremely competitive league that will challenge us and require us to continue to grow. Our coaches are excited, our players are excited, and obviously our administration is behind the move one hundred percent. Our membership in the WAC is a big step for our program and one we are looking forward to making.
