Jaxon Shipley To David Ash: Bryan Harsin Displays Play-Calling Genius To Extend Game Clinching Drive

Bryan Harsin has developed his play-calling skills at a Boise St. program known for their imagination and ability to execute exotic plays in key situations. He displayed that ability at one of Texas’ first key points of their first season under his command. The Longhorns faced a 3rd-6 at their 47 as they tried to ice a one-point lead with 2:55 remaining.

Texas lined up QB David Ash wide right with RB Fozzy Whittaker behind center in a wildcat formation. Receiver Jaxon Shipley came in motion from the right and took the hand-off from Whittaker. Ash found a dead spot in the coverage and Shipley hit him for 23 yards and a first down.

Texas ran three times for another first down in the next series and killed the rest of the clock for a 17-16 comeback win. Give Harsin the assist for the game-clinching drive, after the play-caller coaxed two second half TDs from his young QBs.
