David Ash and Case McCoy have moved the ball more effectively for Texas after subbing in for starter Garrett Gilbert, and the pair led the Longhorns on their first TD drive early in the third quarter to narrow the score to 13-10.
Though the men behind center changed, the bulk of the work on the drive was done on the ground, as Malcolm Brown and D.J. Munroe ran five times for 61 yards before Cody Johnson rumbled in from one yard. Texas did change their look, going to the option with Ash and play-actioning deep once.
For the game, Ash is 2-3 for 35 yards in the air and has run six times for 34 yards. McCoy is 3-3 for 16 yards. Munroe has been Texas’ most explosive threat, totaling 66 yards on four touches. Brown has six carries for 37 yards in his second college game. Texas QBs have completed seven passes to six different receivers.
