While NFL fans eagerly await for the lockout to be lifted, fans of the Dallas Cowboys will at least have an opportunity to see one of their favorite players in competitive action this weekend when quarterback Tony Romo tees it up at the 2011 American Century Championship. The celebrity golf tournament, which is being held for the 22nd year, begins this Thursday in Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and Romo, who unsuccessfully tried to qualify for this year's U.S. Open, is listed as the co-favorite to win. At 5/2 odds, he and former pitcher Rick Rhoden are considered the most likely to win it all. Rhoden, now an aspiring professional golfer, will certainly give Romo a run for his money.
↵The fun-filled event features 85 prominent athletes, actors and other celebrity personalities. There are 37 current and former NFL players and coaches, 14 former MLB players, 10 current and former NBA players and coaches, seven former NHL players and 10 actors playing in the tournament.
↵Let's just say the field is not exactly level from top to bottom. All you need to know to back up that claim is that Charles Barkley and his infamously awful golf swing will also be competing. Ray Romano, who gets asked back each year for his generous giving and witty humor, is also in the field but listed at 300/1.
↵Other Dallas area participants include former Dallas Stars Mike Modano and Brett Hull, Jason Kidd, Emmit Smith, and DFW area native Deron Williams.
