NCAA Baseball Regional Scores: Cal Eliminates Baylor After Ninth Inning Collapse

The Baylor Bears will not be headed to the NCAA Baseball Super Regionals. Baylor was eliminated by California on Monday night, losing 9-8.

Baylor held a 8-5 lead headed into the ninth inning, but the wheels fell completely off the wagon. The ninth started off with a single and an error, bringing the tying run to the plate almost immediately against Logan Verrett, who had come on in relief. After a fielders choice brought the score to 8-6, Verrett hit the Golden Bears' leadoff man, Austin Booker.

A single then brought the score to 8-7 before Verrett issued a walk on just four pitches, putting the winning run in scoring position. Verrett would get the next batter to go down on strikes, but unfortunately, Devon Rodriguez singled, plating both the tying and the go-ahead runs, sending the Golden Bears to the Super Regionals.

Verrett is unfortunately charged with the loss, giving up just one earned run. Jon Ringenberg started for Baylor, lasting just two and third innings before exiting, having just given up one run on three hits. Max Garner came in in relief of Rigenberg, pitching five and a third innings, giving up four runs (all earned) on seven hits.
