NCAA Baseball Regionals: Longhorns Force Monday Replay With Kent State With 9-3 Win

The Longhorns dug themselves a hole Saturday with their 7-5 loss to Kent State, but a big Sunday put them back into position to win their regional. A walk-off 5-3 win over Texas State earlier in the day set up a first rematch with Kent State, and the Longhorns forced a final showdown with a 9-3 win Sunday night.

Texas used Hoby Milner as their fourth starter but went to Nathan Thornhill after 2.2 innings. The tandem combined for 6.1 innings and held the Flashes to three runs while striking out ten. Texas got to starter David Starn, who finished the regular season with a 1.95 ERA, for six run (four earned) in six innings, then added three more on Casey Wilson.

Andrew Mckirahan and Kendal Carillo finished the job for Texas with a scoreless 2.2 innings. Kevin Lusson followed his walk-off double earlier in the day with a three-run home run.

Texas and Kent State will face off again Monday at 1:00 to decide the Aystub Regional winner.
