Wimbledon 2011: Wozniacki, Serena And Venus Williams Upset

We won't be seeing some familiar faces in the Ladies semi and eventually finals at Wimbledon in 2011. There were three upsets on Monday, with both Williams sisters losing as well as the No. 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki.

Serena Williams, who was the champion at Wimbledon in 2010, lost in straight sets to Marion Bartoli 6-3, 7-6. Her sister, Venus Williams, also lost in straight sets (6-2, 6-3), to Tsvetana Pironkova. This year will be the first year since 2006 that either Serena or Venus will not win Wimbledon, opening up the field for everybody else.

Except for No. 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki. Wozniacki was upset as well, losing to Dominika Cibulkova 1-6, 7-6, 7-5. Wozniacki lost the second set tiebreaker 7-5, so she certainly had her chances to win and advance.

One familiar face on the Ladies side did win, though - Maria Sharapova. Sharapova cruised in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 over Shuai Peng. With the win, Sharapova advanced to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon for the first time in five years.
