Congratulations UConn, Liam

In maybe the ugliest National Championship you’ll ever see, Butler lost for the second straight year, this time 53-41.

Yes, you read that score correctly.

That makes Connecticut the seventh school to win three titles, joining UCLA, Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, Duke, and Kansas. There will be quite a bit of talk about how the shoe did not quite fit for Cinderella, and it is true a big conference beat a small conference, but Butler was the team returning to the title game, and Butler was the team ranked in the pre-season. They had a glorious run in the tournament, but it’s not like they were knocked off by a team that marched through the year like a powerhouse.

This came just one day after the lady Huskies were knocked off, so I’m sure this lessens that sting a bit for the campus. The win also clinches a win in our little bracket for Liam, who, along with J.P., correctly picked the winner. Congrats Huskies, congrats Liam, and I’m going to go watch One Shining Moment to cap off one of the best tournaments that has ever been played.
